Sir,

Socioeconomic status (SES) has been defined as the position that an individual or family occupies with reference to the prevailing average standards of culture and material possessions, income, and participation in the group activity of the community.

SES could be an important issue that affects the health of an individual and family, social security system, as well as family health statistics. It is recognized as a tool to influence the accessibility, affordability, acceptability, convenience, and use of a wide variety of resources. The conception of SES is wide employed in medical sociology. The social standing of an individual or a family within society is often measured by it.

Modified B. G. Prasad Scale is the most ordinarily used scale to measure the SES of families. This scale was developed in 1961 and later modified by the author himself in 1968 and 1970. B. G. Prasad's Classification is predicted on per capita monthly income and current index value.[1],[2]

Linking factor from the year 1960 to 2016 is summarized in [Table 1],[3] and the updated B. G. Prasad Scale (May 2022) is summarized in [Table 2].

New income value = Old income value (Base 2016) × 4.93 × 4.63 × 2.88 × MF[3]

Calculation of current income ranges for B. G. Prasad Socioeconomic Classes:

Hence, it is concluded that due to inflation, there are changes in the country's consumer price index over time, so it is very important to regularly update the SES based on income. This article has updated the B. G. Prasad SES with the latest All India Average Consumer Price Index as of May 2022. This updated B. G. Prasad Scale is useful for researchers to mutually study the variables of health status.
